Following Your Composite Bonding at Denticare North Dublin

Congratulations on enhancing your smile with composite bonding at Denticare in North Dublin! This cosmetic treatment has given your teeth a beautiful, natural-looking improvement. To ensure the longevity and brilliance of your new bonding, careful aftercare is essential.

Please follow these instructions carefully. If you have any concerns or experience unexpected symptoms, do not hesitate to contact us directly at 0874154835.

1. Immediate Aftercare & Sensitivity

  • Numbness: If local anesthetic was used, your mouth might feel numb for a few hours. Please avoid chewing until the numbness has completely worn off to prevent accidentally biting your lip or tongue.
  • Immediate Use: Your composite bonding is fully hardened before you leave our clinic, so you can eat and drink normally once the numbness subsides.
  • Mild Sensitivity: Some temporary sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures is common after bonding. This usually resolves within a few days to a few weeks. If sensitivity persists or is severe, please contact us.

2. Protecting Your New Smile from Staining

Composite resin is highly aesthetic but can be susceptible to staining, similar to your natural tooth enamel.

  • Initial 48 Hours: For the first 24-48 hours after your bonding, your composite is most susceptible to staining. We strongly advise avoiding:
    • Dark-colored drinks: Coffee, tea, red wine, dark sodas.
    • Highly pigmented foods: Berries (blueberries, blackberries), tomato sauce, soy sauce, curry.
    • Tobacco products: Smoking and chewing tobacco will significantly stain your bonding.
  • Long-Term: To maintain the brightness of your bonding, we recommend limiting your intake of highly staining foods and drinks over time. If you do consume them, rinse your mouth with water immediately afterward.

3. Preventing Chips & Damage

Composite bonding is durable, but it’s not as strong as natural tooth enamel. To prevent chipping or fracture:

  • Avoid Hard Foods: Do not bite or chew on extremely hard foods (e.g., ice, hard sweets, popcorn kernels, nuts, hard crusts).
  • No Unconventional Use: Never use your teeth as tools to open packages, bite your nails, or chew on pens.
  • Protect Against Grinding: If you clench or grind your teeth (bruxism), please inform your dentist. A custom night guard may be recommended to protect your bonding and natural teeth while you sleep.

4. Maintaining Excellent Oral Hygiene

  • Brush Regularly: Brush your teeth at least twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Pay special attention to the areas around your bonded teeth.
  • Floss Daily: Floss daily to remove plaque and food particles from between your teeth and around the bonding.
  • Regular Dental Check-ups: Continue to attend your regular dental check-ups and professional cleanings at Denticare. Inform your hygienist that you have composite bonding so they can use appropriate polishing instruments to prevent damage.

5. When to Contact Denticare Immediately:

  • Chipping or Rough Spots: If a piece of your bonding chips, or if you feel any rough or sharp edges with your tongue.
  • Persistent Pain or Sensitivity: If sensitivity or pain increases or persists significantly beyond a few days/weeks.
  • Uncomfortable Bite: If your bite feels uneven or uncomfortable after the numbness wears off.
  • Allergic Reaction: Any signs of an allergic reaction (e.g., rash, itching).

Your Denticare North Dublin team is here to support you in maintaining your beautifully bonded smile. With proper care, your composite bonding will look fantastic for years to come!
